What this site is
DOT Lookup presents information drawn from the FMCSA public carrier census, published by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It reports what those records say: a carrier’s current filing details, how those details have changed over time, and what details a carrier has in common with other carriers.
This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of FMCSA or the U.S. Department of Transportation. We do not maintain the federal record and cannot change it.
What shared details mean - and do not mean
When this site reports that two carriers share an address, a phone number or an officer name, that is a statement about what the public record contains. It is not a statement that the carriers are the same business, that either has done anything wrong, or that one is a continuation of the other.
Businesses share details for ordinary reasons every day. Carriers operate from shared yards and multi-tenant terminals. Filing agents and registered-agent services appear as the address for hundreds of unrelated companies. Family businesses pass between relatives who file under their own names. A company reorganises, incorporates, and registers again.
Because of this, the site reports how unusual a shared detail is - how many carriers hold it - rather than presenting it as a finding. A detail shared by two carriers and a detail shared by seven hundred are different facts, and we show you which one you are looking at.
You are responsible for what you conclude from this information and for any decision you take on the basis of it. We encourage you to verify anything material against FMCSA’s own systems before acting.
Accuracy and availability
The information is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, currency or fitness for any particular purpose.
Records come from a federal source that we mirror; they may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong at source. Carriers update their own filings, and there is a lag between a change in the world and a change in the record. We show the date of the data we hold so you can judge that for yourself.
We do not guarantee that the site will be available, uninterrupted, or free of error, and we may change or withdraw any part of it.
Acceptable use
You may look up carriers you are doing business with or considering doing business with.
You may not:
- access the site or its API by automated means, including crawling, scraping or systematic querying, without our prior written permission;
- extract, copy or rebuild the underlying dataset, in whole or in substantial part;
- share, resell or publish access credentials, or use a credential issued to someone else;
- present information from this site as a finding, rating or accusation about a named business or person;
- use the site to harass any person, or for any purpose prohibited by law;
- interfere with the operation of the site or attempt to gain access to any part of it you have not been granted.
API access requires a key issued by us. Requests without a valid key are refused. We may rate-limit, suspend or withdraw a key at any time, and we log requests in order to enforce these terms.
Not a consumer report
This site is not a consumer reporting agency, and the information it provides is not a consumer report. It must not be used to establish eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site - including lost business, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site means you accept the current version.
