The records this site reports
DOT Lookup mirrors the FMCSA public carrier census, published by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Every carrier detail shown here - business names, addresses, phone numbers, docket numbers, filing dates, safety ratings and the names of company officers - comes from that public federal record.
Officer names are personal information about identifiable people, and we treat them as such. They appear because a carrier filed them with FMCSA and FMCSA publishes them. We do not add names from any other source, we do not infer them, and we do not combine them with data from elsewhere.
Because these details are in the public record, the site can be searched by them: by company name, by the name of a company officer, and by the email address, phone number or address a carrier filed. Search results are not listed in search engines. If you are an officer named in a carrier’s filing and believe a result is shown in a misleading way, tell us on the contact page.
We keep historical copies of these records so the site can show how a carrier’s filings have changed over time. That history is the point of the product: a filing that changed last month is a different fact from one that has stood for a decade.
Corrections and removals
We cannot change the federal record. If a detail about you or your business is wrong, the correction has to be made with FMCSA, because that is where the information comes from and where every other service that uses it will keep reading it.
Once FMCSA’s record is corrected, the change reaches this site automatically at the next daily update.
What we can do is act on how information is presented here. Write to the contact page if you believe something on this site is inaccurate, misleading in the way it is shown, or should not be displayed. Tell us the DOT number and what specifically is wrong. We will respond, and where we agree we will correct or suppress the presentation.
What we collect about you
We keep server logs of requests to this site. These record the IP address, the page or record requested, the time, and the browser’s user-agent string. They exist so we can keep the site running, diagnose faults, and detect abuse such as automated bulk querying, which our terms prohibit.
To stop bulk scraping, we count carrier lookups per connection for up to one day. The count is stored against a one-way code derived from your IP address, not the address itself, and is deleted after that day. We do not keep a list of which carriers you looked up.
Where the API is used, we additionally record which key made each request and which records it asked for, for the same reasons.
We do not sell this information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to build a profile of you. We disclose it only where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate abuse of the service.
Cookies and tracking
We use IntegratePro Analytics (integrateproanalytics.com) to understand how the site is used. Its script loads on every page, so that service receives your IP address, your browser’s details and the address of each page you visit - which, on a carrier page, includes the DOT number you looked up. It may also set cookies. We do not use it for advertising. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the request for those font files.
Changes
We may update this notice. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
